Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Matt Carr was spelling it out with his “can’t get enough” installation. Made of tube lights bent into the shape of the words and hanging lenses, when one used a lens the words would become surreal, each individual light bulb would glow in the shape of a heart. Peer out the window with a lens and the city lights would also have the loving glow. Matt has been a part of Umbra’s design team since 2001 and was recently appointed Director of Design.

2009 was the sixth year of the Come Up To My Room show in Toronto, but the first without founding curators Pamila Matharu and Christina Zeidler. This year Pamila and Christina passed the torch to four new young curators; Katherine Morley, Caroline Shaheed, Jeremy Vandermeij and Deborah Wang, and they did a great job. First up, designers David Chang, Andrea Chin, and Amrita Takhar whose room installation included a hanging porcelain flashlight pendant in the center, an illuminated copper tubing light on one wall and a series of mirrored rackets on the other.
